A Strange Obama Sign

This afternoon, Amanda and I were driving in one of our favorite neighborhoods, I’On. This is probably the most expensive neighborhood in our area ( that is not on the ocean). It’s a neat neighborhood (check out the website) , and it’s right near us, so we like to go for drives and walks there often.

Being a huge political junkie, I thought it would be fun to see which candidate was winning in I’On, McCain or Obama. We made it through about 1/2 of the neighborhood, and Obama was winning big time. We had seen 5 Obama signs, and several other signs for Linda Ketner (democrat running for a seat in the House of Representatives), but only one sign for McCain.

That’s when we came across this sign:
Obama Sign

I don’t know if it’s more funny or sad, but I just had to stop and take a picture. It’s pretty unbelievable that someone would so bold as to actually post something like this in their front yard. At any rate, I’m sure their McCain sign was probably taken down one of the neighbors, 2 of who had Obama/ Biden signs.

We continued to drive through, and saw a few more Obama/ Biden signs, and only one more McCain Palin sign. It looked to me like Obama / Biden were definitely the pick of I’On.

It’s really interesting, because when you drive around most average areas of Mount Pleasant, SC, you see a lot more McCain supporters. But in a neighborhood like I’On, where the average price of a home is about a million dollars, whose residents almost certainly make over $250,000 / year, Obama is the choice. Why? Aren’t these the people who will be affected most by Obama’s tax Plan?

I think that one of the biggest flaws in McCain’s campaign is that (for the past 2 weeks at least) he has based his who argument around “Joe the Plumber” who doesn’t make anywhere near $250k per year. It just doesn’t make sense. This is only my opinion, but I think If you’re making over $250k per year, you’re doing pretty good. Is a few more percent really going to break you? I don’t know many people who make more than $250k, but those that I do know are Obama supporters.
